We are aiming to launch a brand new strand to Brixton Youth Theatre.
BYT Juniorswill be a free weekly workshops for 7 -11 year olds that will be at Brixton Community Base, Talma Road SW2 1AS starting in 2021
Over the past few years Talma Road, and the surrounding streets, have run an annual street advent leading up to Christmas. It’s been a neighbourhood led initiative to shine light on the roads leading up to Christmas and has been a fantastic way to develop community spirit. Each house selects a date in the advent and on their day displays the number in their own individual way. This year the neighbours wanted to see if they could run the advent, but also raise funds for a local charity and thought the Brixton Youth Theatre project based at the Community Centre, Talma Road was the perfect appeal to align with.
Thanks to Katie and all our neighbours for your support.

Over the past few weeks of lockdown, BYT has needed to use the power of the internet to run our workshops online. BYT members have created, poems, videos, speeches, etc and we want to give huge congratulations to our two BYT Prize winners for their imaginative and touching contributions.
We have been so impressed by the positive way members have responded to the challenge of meeting on line. At their request we will continue to meet throughout the lock down, with no Easter break. Now that online school has broken up we have launched a three minute film competition with members filming and editing on their phones!!!
For a brand new decade of excitement and adventure.
After the excellent performance of our Christmas Show ‘Rag and Riches’ and the exciting screening of our short films from the BYT Film in a Week project, we are now looking forward to kicking off our regular weekly workshops, starting on Friday 10 January 2020 6pm – 8pm.
As always new members are welcome and the start of a new term is the perfect time to come along and join the fun.
We’ve had a great summer of holiday projects and now we are looking forward to kicking off our regular weekly sessions again, starting on Friday 13 September 6pm – 8pm. New members are always welcome and the start of a new term is the perfect time to come along and join the fun.
From Monday 10th June 12 pm to Monday 17th June 6 pm we will be part of the Big Give and Childhood Trust’s ‘Summer Give’ fundraising scheme, where we aim to raise money for our Theatre and Films Arts Week project running this Summer at the Brixton Community Base. Any £5, £10, £20, £50, £100 you donate will be doubled and help us to reach our target of £2000.
Our Summer project will provide a fun and constructive programme where the participants will engage in positive creative activities, learning new skills and developing team work whilst staying safe and away from the temptations that could lead them into trouble. This will also provide reassurance and peace of mind for parents/carers over the school holidays.
