BYT has been busy running our workshops online. We’ve been enjoying weekly play readings, acting master classes, quizzes, jokes, prizes, spoken word, castings and auditions. All to keep our sprits up, keep our talent and creativity ticking over, and help support our emotional and mental wellbeing during lockdown.
Because of the national lockdown, BYT will be running workshops online until further notice. We have contacted all our members who will be doing our first session starting 6pm – 8pm on the 8th January.
If you want to join in the fun please and want more information please head over to our About page and get in contact.
In the meantime Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
BYT’s 2020 Autumn term witnessed once again the wonderful creative spirit of our members.
September’s safe, socially distanced return to live sessions launched our monologue project with young people creating original characters and speeches which they shared with the group.
Also, In the autumn term our industry connections led to five members of BYT playing small parts in a feature film made under Covid Safe conditions.
With the end to this second lockdown we were able to return to the base in time for a wonderful final session in which members performed poems, read sections of plays they had written, played drama games and shared home cooked food and Pizza in a Covid safe and socially distanced environment.
So despite everything that’s going on we are looking forward to our new term beginning in January.
We are aiming to launch a brand new strand to Brixton Youth Theatre.
BYT Juniorswill be a free weekly workshops for 7 -11 year olds that will be at Brixton Community Base, Talma Road SW2 1AS starting in 2021
Over the past few years Talma Road, and the surrounding streets, have run an annual street advent leading up to Christmas. It’s been a neighbourhood led initiative to shine light on the roads leading up to Christmas and has been a fantastic way to develop community spirit. Each house selects a date in the advent and on their day displays the number in their own individual way. This year the neighbours wanted to see if they could run the advent, but also raise funds for a local charity and thought the Brixton Youth Theatre project based at the Community Centre, Talma Road was the perfect appeal to align with.
Thanks to Katie and all our neighbours for your support.
To donate follow the link below which takes you to donate to a charity page. Then type in 1082783 (charity no.) and make donation.
BYT will return after the summer break on the 11th September 2020 either on-line or hopefully, at the community centre.

Over the past few weeks of lockdown, BYT has needed to use the power of the internet to run our workshops online. BYT members have created, poems, videos, speeches, etc and we want to give huge congratulations to our two BYT Prize winners for their imaginative and touching contributions.
We have been so impressed by the positive way members have responded to the challenge of meeting on line. At their request we will continue to meet throughout the lock down, with no Easter break. Now that online school has broken up we have launched a three minute film competition with members filming and editing on their phones!!!
