BYT – Winter HAF Project.

BYT’s Holiday Activity and Food Project is back for another exciting mix of drama and Preforming Arts, running four days over the holiday period.

This winter, alongside our usual mix of fantastic fun filled activities, that include theatre devising,  improvisation, storytelling, music, dancing, and drawing/crafts and more – we will be having a theatre trip to see Hansel and Gretel at the Globe Theatre.

As usual Young people will be provided with a healthy lunch which will help them explore their health and well-being in a safe and fun supportive environment.

Project Dates:  

Monday 23rd December 2024 –

We will have an exciting theatre trip to see Hansel and Gretel and the Globe Theatre. 

Monday 31st December 2023

We will be running our drama and performing Arts activities centred around winter stories at the St Vincent Centre

Thursday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd January 2025 –

We will be kicking of the New Year at the St Vincent Centre, where we will be continuing our drama and performing Arts

N.B. The Theatre Trip to Globe on 23rd to see Hansel & Gretel. Will be free to registered HAF participants. For non – HAF parents we will have to charge £10.00.

 

Remembering Benjamin Zephaniah

BYT were invited to perform at the Remembering Benjamin Zephaniah event at Brixton Library as part of National Poetry Day

The event was organised by Lambeth Libraries and The Friends of Brixton Library (FoBL) and was held to commemorate the life and work of local poet Benjamin Zephaniah.

 ‘Many thanks to BYT  for their participation in the commemoration of one of the greatest poets of our time.  
 
A great evening and the children and their chosen pieces were one of the highlights of the event.’

BYT Youngers Funding

Great News! Our BYT Youngers, 7-11 project had been awarded National Lottery Community Funding for another year.

This will help us to continue the project, providing free drama and performing arts activities for children and young people in Brixton and the surrounding area. Providing positive local support to families and the community.

BYT Youngers (7-11) every Friday  4.15pm – 5.45pm

BYT 13+ every Friday 6pm – 8pm

BYT Acting Together Mondays 4.15pm – 5.45pm Starts September 9th @Wheatfield Hall

BYT Summer of Food and Fun drama project

This Summer, our amazing week of drama and performing art activities returns, for children based in Brixton aged 7 to 11.

The project will provide fantastic fun and creative drama activities, which will enable participants to explore their health and well-being in a safe, fun and supportive environment. 

The activities will include; drama, theatre devising, Tai Chi, improvisation, script work, music, dancing/movement and drawing/crafts. Young people will also be provided with a fantastic nutritious and healthy lunch.

Our Spring of Food and Fun Drama Project runs from: 

Monday 29th July – Friday 9th August from 11am -3pm

St Vincent’s Centre, Brixton, Talma Road, SW2 1AS

Through the project we aim to get children and young people to: 

  • Eat more healthily and be more active over the school holidays
  • Develop resilience, character and wellbeing by engaging in enriching activities 
  • Be safe and not to be socially isolated
  • Give them greater knowledge of health and nutrition

BYT – 2024

Exciting drama workshops, rehearsals, events, theatre visits and much more right in the heart of Brixton

All our BYT groups are now on a winter break and will be back in action in the New Year, starting on Friday 12 January 2024 when we will rehearsal for our new play.

National Theatre, Theatre Visit

BYT members enjoyed trip to see the final week of the NT connections festival – for some of our newer members it was the first time they had ever been to the theatre. They found seeing other young performers,  the same age as themselves, greatly inspiring.  

BYT Summer HAF DRAMA PROJECT 

This summer, Brixton Youth Theatre will be running two weeks of amazing summer fun, with our Holiday and Food drama/performing arts project, for children and young people based in Brixton.

Dates and times:

11am – 3pm

Week 1 for 7-11 year olds – Monday 24th July to Friday 28th 

On Thursday 27th being there will be super summer outing to see Alice In Wonderland at Kew Gardens

Week 2 for 11 – 16 year olds – Monday 31st July to Friday 4th August 

The project.

We will have our usual popular mix of fantastic fun filled drama and performing arts activities, including; acting, improvisation, devising theatre, film, Tai Chi, script work, music, dancing, and drawing/crafts.

Young people will also be provided with a fantastic nutritious and healthy lunch that will enable them to explore their health and well-being in a safe and fun supportive environment.

Through the project we aim to get children and young people to: 

  • Eat more healthily and be more active over the school summer holidays.
  • Develop resilience, character and wellbeing by engaging in enriching activities. 
  • Be safe and not to be socially isolated, make new friends and develop positive relationships
  • Gain greater awareness of health and nutrition.
